PICPA Vancouver Sponsors Scholarships for Accountancy Students in the Philippines

As part of its commitment to Filipino Accountants, PICPA Vancouver Canada has partnered with the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in British Columbia (UPAABC) in sponsoring academically and financially deserving students in the Philippines.  This is in the form of financial assistance in the amount of Php 30,000 per year from the year of sponsorship until the student graduates.

UPAABC’s sponsorship guidelines include, among others:

  • Students from UP Virata School of Business (UP VSB) interested to avail of the scholarship should apply.

  • Applicants should be in financial need and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0

  • Applicants will be screened by UP VSB and short-listed applicants will be interviewed by UPAABC.

UPAABC forwards short-listed and unfunded applicants to PICPA Vancouver who will then conduct interviews and choose the scholar to fund based on the Board of Directors’ majority decision.

In 2021, PICPA Vancouver is pleased to fund / administer scholarships to two students:  Stephanie Gabalfin and Areane Aquino.

Stephanie Gabalfin is a third-year student of BS Business Administration and Accountancy and aims to take the CPA Licensure Exams after graduating. She aspires to practice her profession and start her own business someday.  Stephanie is also into painting, graphics design, trekking and community volunteering.  Stephanie’s first year of scholarship is co-sponsored by Bernadette Laxamana who was the speaker in PICPA’s “Mind Power” professional development seminar.

Areane Aquino is a second-year student of BS Business Administration and Accountancy. She aspires to be an effective worker, save money so she could pursue studies in Law and start her own business providing legal and financial services.  Areane enjoys reading, cycling and community volunteering and helps in their family’s sari-sari store.  Areane is sponsored in full by T1 Mobile Tax Services, a company owned by PICPA Vancouver’s Past President, Mr. Bert Parungao.

A big thank you to our co-sponsors!

PICPA is aiming to fund more scholarships and putting a call to its members. Interested in co-sponsoring a student from the Philippines?  Please email [email protected] for details.
